thanks!
ur doin it wrong.
I mean, no, sorry, it’s early and I can’t not be unnecessarily sarcastic when I wake up before at least eleven, but really, this whole “LABELS ARE FOR SOUP CANS” or whatever is not where I meant for that to go.
When I said I respect the need for…
Fuck yes, thank you for this. Everytime I see someone pull out that sneering, superior kind of “I don’t need labels” bullshit as though anyone who does identify themselves with a “label” is somehow small minded, not cool enough, too conventional as opposed to some hip freethinker who doesn’t need “labels”, I just want to punch them. Hard.
Those labels are also identities, asswipes, and while you may not feel the need for them, there are rather a lot of people who struggle daily to have those labels, those identities, recognized and respected. It’s a great privilege to go without “labels” and it usually comes from knowing that if you don’t give people a name, a word, or a category to call you, the one they put you in won’t be to your disadvantage or go against how you identify yourself or make everyone in the room think worse of you or put you at risk.
You don’t need labels? La-de-fucking-dah for you. A lot of people do and they’re not lesser than you. So respect that labels have a place and that for a lot of people, they’re a very precious part of their very selves.

This is actually false. I just read an interview with Watson from Time Magazine that said that has never happened to her.
